International Short Film Festival

Place: KIIT Convention CenterKIIT School of Film and Media Sciences will organise International Short Film Festival at KIIT Convention Center in Bhubaneswar from 25th to 27th February 2011. The festival is aimed at involving film makers, cinematographers, students of film, media institutes in illustrating and exposing them to the viability of high quality short films. The festival has received total number 179 short films entries from 11 countries. Out of which 37 Films of 480 minutes got selected for the screening at the festival.

Leading Odia Entertainment Channel TARANG will be organised 2nd Tarang Cine Awards in Bhubaneswar. The awards category also includes – Best actor in a negative role, Best actor in a comic role, best director, best cinematographer, Best editor, best dialogue writer, best audiographer, best music director, best lyricist and best playback singer (male and Female). Apart from this, there will be a life time achievement award in recognition of the commitment and contribution to Odia film industry.
This year three new categories (best choreographer, best child artist and best debutant actor) have been added to the existing 18 categories, taking the total number of awards to 21. All nominees for the popular categories will now be open for public voting. Tarang Cine Awards ground event is scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar on 26th February 2011. Viewers can watch the entire televised show on Tarang TV on 5th March 2011.

" Lotus Films Pvt Ltd” is only little more than one year old. During this period we have been able to produce 2 oriya films. The first film 'Chaka Chaka Bhaunri' was a typical family story and was a run away success despite popular perception that there is no audience for a family story in Orissa. In contrast ' Bande Utkala Janani' is more realistic film and closely reflects the present political culture of present socierty of Orissa. It is more of an action and political thriller. It reflects professionalism of police and journalist as well. We hope this film will also be a success. Lotus films will focus mostly on original stories reflecting Oriya society in general. In future it will encourage and give chance to newcomers both in artist and technician section as well. It will persevere in giving wholesome entertaining cinema to the people of Orissa.

Kalinga Putra
I do business but film making is a passion for me. It's the instinct inside me that boost's me to become a producer. I want to create a sincere production house in orissa which will make films with proper and controlled budget without doing any injustice to the quality. I promise I will never disappoint the viewers.
This movie is neither like a plate of Garam Biriyani nor like a hot spicy soup. It's just a very simple and sober movie and u can compare it with the delicious oriya food Pakhala Bhata. And I am confident that this presentation will be accepted by each and every oriya.
I never compromise with quality. And here also I have given the best of my ability. I consider Kalinga Putra as one of my best works.

The first ever Oriya film song released on HMV was sung by him. The most number of aesthetically popular numbers have been rendered by him. He has been topping the chart for over three generations. Even after already carving out a niche for Oriya music, SIKANDAR ALAM is going strong.
Excerpts from an exclusive tête-à-tête with SASWAT PATTANAYAK:
1. What ails the Oriya music industry today?
Ans: One, We had stalwarts like Pandit Bhubaneswar Mishra and Balakrushna Das. The radio listeners are still requesting for their songs. Today, there are composers with no classical background. Hence, absolutely baseless music is being produced.
