Eighth National Theater Festival Canfest-2011

8th annual edition of the national theatre festival will organise by the local cultural society Canmass at port town of Paradip. It was one of the best theatre festival of the State. This festival started from 19th February and will continue till 28th February in association with Paradip Port Trust, Ministry of Culture, Sangeet Natak Akademi, National School of Drama, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, North Zone Cultural Centre, Karnataka Natak Academy and the Departments of Culture of the Governments of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. 

Each evening would witness presentation of one play and there would be an interactive session on the play on the following morning where the director and actors would be available for a dialogue with the audience and critics. The directors and playwrights whose productions are lined up for presentation during this year's festival include famed names like Habib Tanvir, Vijay Tendulkar, M.K.Raina, Rudra Prasad Sanyal, Bijaya Mishra, Ramesh Panigrahi and Dolagobinda Rath.

Bring Your Own Film Festival - BYOFF 2011

BYOFF is an annual event held during February 21st to 25th every year on Puri beach. It’s a festival without hierarchy, competition, juries and awards. Where not only filmmakers but also artists from other disciplines like music, theater, painting, sculpture, dance, literature and photography are encouraged to participate and show their work.

KANSA MAHARAJA OF BARAGADA PERFORMED IN JAJPUR Source: Akshya Rout, Jajpur

 

The King Kansa of Baragada along with his ministers and other members attracted huge crowd in Sukinda of Jajpur district on Saturday in a function on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of Sattar Memorial Committee. The Kansa King was the chief guest in the meeting. They performed one hour on the stage
The King Kansa also felicitated the noted journalist Akshya Sahoo, Manoranjan Mohanty, film actress Riya, Pintu Nanda, comedian Papu. And others. Shiva Narayan Patnaik the manager of Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) the King of Sukinda Bhudev Harischandan Mohapatra, secretary of Sattar Memorial Committee Manjur Ali and Asutosh Divedi and other were present in the meeting. At least two thousand villagers were present in the meeting.

Odisha Women Hockey Team won bronze in National Women Hockey Tournament

 

In the first National Women Hockey Championship, Odisha Women Hockey team bagged bronze medal in Haryana. Odisha team defeated Punjab team by 5 – 3 goals in playoff match for 3rd position. Yalini Lakra of Odisha team scored hat-trick goals in this match. She scored total 4 goals and lilima Minjhi scored one goal against Punjab team. Earlier Odisha team was defeated by Haryana team for 0 – 3 goals in semifinal match of this tournament. Railways team won this championship by defeating Haryana team for 7 -1 goals in the final of this tournament. The championship was organised by Hockey India Organisation.

In Vijay Hazare Tournament, Odisha Cricket team won the second match against Tripura team

 

At the Polytechnic Ground, Agartala, Odisha Cricket team won their second match with 69 runs against Tripura team in the Vijay Hazare tournament. In allotted 50 overs, Odisha team scored 255 runs for loss of eight wickets. Biplab Samantaray scored 80 runs for odisha team. Gopesh Bhowmik took 4/24 for Tripura team. In their run chase, Tripura team lost three quick wickets for just 19 runs. Nishit Shetty and Yogesh Takawale added 85 runs for Tripura team. Paresh Patel, Biplab Samantray, Alok Mangaraj and Sumitosh Praharaj took two wickets each.

Final Scores of both teams are:

Odisha team: 255 runs for loss of eight wickets in 50 overs.
Tripura team: 186 runs all out in 47.3 overs.

OJEE-2011 on May 1, 8

The Odisha government has announced that the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE-2011) will be conducted on May 1, 2011 for admission to MCA, MBA, PGDM, PGDM (Executive), PGCM and M.Pharma courses and on May 8, 2011 for admission to B.Tech, B.Arch, MBBS, BDS, B.Pharma, M.Tech, M.Arch courses. Interested candidates can obtain the application forms from banks/post offices on payment of Rs 550 at the designated post office or branches of Syndicate Bank and State Bank of India. Details of the names of Post Office/Syndicate Bank/State Bank of India are available on the OJEE 2011 website. The application form can also be filled online through the website.

Candidates seeking admission to M. Tech/M.Pharm/M.Arch should fill their application only through online process by logging on to www.odishajee.com. There will be no information brochure selling either from banks or GPO for PGAT. The last date for the sale and submission of application forms is March 18, 2011 and for online registration is March 15, 2011. The last date for the receipt of the confirmation slip and demand draft is March 21, 2011 for online applicants.

2nd Tarang Cine Awards

Leading Odia Entertainment Channel TARANG will be organised 2nd Tarang Cine Awards in Bhubaneswar. The awards category also includes – Best actor in a negative role, Best actor in a comic role, best director, best cinematographer, Best editor, best dialogue writer, best audiographer, best music director, best lyricist and best playback singer (male and Female). Apart from this, there will be a life time achievement award in recognition of the commitment and contribution to Odia film industry.

This year three new categories (best choreographer, best child artist and best debutant actor) have been added to the existing 18 categories, taking the total number of awards to 21. All nominees for the popular categories will now be open for public voting. Tarang Cine Awards ground event is scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar on 26th February 2011. Viewers can watch the entire televised show on Tarang TV on 5th March 2011.

International Short Film Festival

Place: KIIT Convention Center
KIIT School of Film and Media Sciences will organise International Short Film Festival at KIIT Convention Center in Bhubaneswar from 25th to 27th February 2011. The festival is aimed at involving film makers, cinematographers, students of film, media institutes in illustrating and exposing them to the viability of high quality short films. The festival has received total number 179 short films entries from 11 countries. Out of which 37 Films of 480 minutes got selected for the screening at the festival.
